My hair wont stop coming out?

I had a baby 3 months ago and about 1 month after I delivered my hair started coming out. I read that your hair will fall out a lot postpartum but my hair comes out in clumps every time I wash or brush my hair. Or sometimes I just run my hands through my hair and clumps of it fall out. How long before it normally stops falling out?

My hair fell out like your is for about 5 months. Now my son is a year old and I have the most ridiculous little baby hairs growing back and sticking straight up. Its REALLY annoying!!

i did that and after a bit it finally stopped but i would call your doctor just to make sure it is not a hormone problem

This is perfectly normal. It has something to do with your hormones and is nothing to worry about. I think I finally stopped shedding some where around the fourth or fifth month.

I know what your going through i gave birth 4 months ago, and the same thing was happening to me i thought i was going to be bald, i recently got my hair cut and it stopped, a few strands still come out but nuffin like before. Im only guessing that it had something to do with it, but you could always try it

Are you not taking the prenatal vitamins anymore? If you are nursing, keep taking them, if not take a different type of vitamin.

I don't know how long it will take to stop falling out but, I would talk to your doctor and see if he/she has anything to say about it and what you can do to help it. He/she may recommend going on a vitamin supplement. I'm sure it will take time to get back to normal. My sister had the same thing happen to her and she doesn't have the problem anymore 10 months later. I hope you and your hair find some relief.

First of all - define 'clumps'. If you are getting actual patches of hair coming out and you see areas of total baldness - that is NOT normal and you need to see your doctor.

If you are getting alot of individual hairs coming out at once - but they are spaced evenly from all over your head and you dont have any bald patches.... that is normal post-partum.

My hair started falling out at 3-4 months after having my baby - and then it stopped - and then it did again when my baby was just over a year. I had long straight hair before I had my baby and after she was born, I couldnt handle the hair coming out and the lack of time on my hands to deal with it - so I cut it into a cute choppy bob - and no one notices my hair thinning and no one notices when I dont have time to fix my hair in the morning because all I do is run gel through it and go!

My hair didn't stop falling out for about 5 months after my twins where born. I can't believe I still have hair after all that fell out. My kids are a year old and the hair that fell out is growing back and I have these horrible baby hairs sticking out everywhere. I'm sure it will stop soon.

Wow! I'm glad someone else is having this problem and asked this question. I'm in the same boat as you...I had a baby almost three months ago and within the past three weeks or so, my hair has been falling out in astronomical proportions. I talked to my hair stylist the other day while getting my hair trimmed and he said that it's completely normal after having a baby because of the ginormous shift in your hormones. He also asked me if I was still taking my prenatal vitamins and when I told him no, he mentioned that if I started taking them religiously again, my hair loss would slow down drastically.

I do plan on talking to my doc about it in a couple of weeks when I go in for my check-up and if you are deeply concerned, perhaps you should speak to your doc as well. Extreme hair loss can be associated with many things...including hypothyroidism and it's best if you know about potential problems ASAP.

Good luck and congrats on your recent family addition!
