mine would stand in the shower for an hour, it seemed, with a wash cloth on his head not even getting wet above the chest. Don't worry he will get over it. Meanwhile you will have to keep reminding him. It will be a fond memory in the future.

He's 9 years old and doesn't really care about grooming.
Remind him...but DO NOT get upset when he forgets. Sooner or later he'll start caring.

So typical of boys that age. It will change when he becomes interested in sex and needs to impress the object of his affections. Meanwhile your nagging will remain in his memory until it's needed.

Do you have a new baby? Sometimes children like to act out when their parents are going to have/ have a baby.
You could try to guilt him into showering properly by telling him that big boys wash with soap and shampoo and brush their teeth without being told. Or perhaps if you have another child that bathes correctly, praise them for doing so and hope he'll follow your lead.

Give him rules, and advise him of the punishments if he does not obey the rules. No soap/shampoo/teeth, no tv, computer or x-box and he has to do chores. Some but not all, some time, but not as much as he wants. Keeps clean to your standards, then can see/do as much as you think reasonable given his age, bedtime and homework. If he does not obey now, just try to get him to obey when he is older.

I have a 9yo daughter, and it seems to work if I let her pick our her own supplies, ie soap/shampoo/toothpaste. Then she is (slightly, lol) more eager to get clean. Hope it works for ya!

keep nagging...build it into his schedule...before TV comes showering...smell his hair for shampoo and if it's not cleaned properly send him back during his shows.
same for teeth...

about the soap, I dont know. I still had to be reminded to brush my teeth until I was a teenager, it has to become a complete habbit, so you just have to keep drilling it into hiss head until he knows it is something that he has to do twice a day!

Its normal at that age.....he will grow out of it. All of my kids except the baby are in that phase. They will grow out of it when they start noticing the opposite sex.
