Are there drawbacks to not brushing/combing your hair?

I have naturally straight hair. I let it dry without brushing. Most mornings I pull it back in a ponytail or french twist, so no brushing required. Even when I wear it down, I might just run my fingers through it, or not even that. Are there any drawbacks to never brushing? Will my hair or scalp become weaker? Is my scalp not getting stimulated, and therefore causing some sort of problem or lack of hair growth? Thanks!

There are two main drawbacks. First, you'll start getting tangled hair. Second, if you don't brush, you don't pull the natural oils from the scalp to the hair ends. It's known that the oils your scalp produces only manage to go 4-6 inches down your hair. It needs some help getting to the ends if you hair is longer than that. Not getting oil will result in split ends.

If you're going to brush, look for a "boar-bristle brush." They will prevent damage to your hair. You have scales on your hair called the cuticle layer. This is what makes up the outside of each hair strand. When tightly sealed, these scales prevent moisture from leaking out of your hair into the air. Boar-bristle brushes polish and smooth those scales.

Not really, but if anything you should comb it. Its less stressful on the hair. You may get tangles more often, and as long as you gently massage your scalp, and brush from root to end,to distribute natural oils, throughout your hair.

people with dread locks do fairly well..but they can tell you after not stimulating the scalp the follicles become weaker...also the fact that all the hair we naturally lose every day (70-100) pieces a day..just stay right there and that's just kinda gross

Essence,

I has my hair brushed

100 times every evening.

I continue to do so, and

the results are super.

If I skip a couple of days,

you can tell the difference

in every aspect.

But, it might not work for

everybody.

Try it for a couple of weeks

and see if any changes occur.

Use a good bristle brush.

Good brushing!

for u not to brush ur hair you are creatin a problem u need to brush all the dead hair out and tangles if u dont take care of your hair by brushing it u are going to create tangles thats causes your hair to break and you'll get alot of split ends urs hair will look messy unkept and not shiny

Definately! You also need to brush to avoid knots and such too.

Are there drawbacks to not brushing/combing your hair?

The draw backs are non-stimulation, build-up of dead skin, product build-up, and lack of hair growth. Although your getting some stimulation when your washing and scrubbing the follicles. Try brushing your hair before you wash it, and then comb through it in the shower. That is what I do, and then on the days I do not wash it, before I throw it up, I just pick through it. The most important thing is for a healthy scalp. Check out my resource for a bionutrient cleanser and scalp therapy...

By not brushing your hair, youre not stimulating the scalp and getting the natural oils going, causing dry scalp, dry hair, and dandruff.
