Actually, you dont need to oil your scalp. Your scalp produces enough oil on its own. By you applying your own, you can contribute to blocking the hair follicles (where the hair grows from), minimizing your hair's growth potential. The only part of your hair that you should concentrate on "oiling" is your hair ends as these tend to be the oldest, therefore the driest parts of your hair strand. FYI, when you "oil" your hair, you are only coating the strands of your hair which provides no benefit to our hair. You need to moisturize your ends and by that I mean, you need to use water to moisturize your hair ends, THEN use your oil to lock in the moisture. If you use oil only, you are only going to get "greasy" hair.

My routine consists of Cantu Shea Soft products (shea butter is really beneficial for our hair) and every night and morning, I lightly spritz the ENDS of my hair and follow up by applying Cantu Shea Soft hair and scalp oil to my ends ONLY. It works wonders. I also take the advice of Cathy Howse, an AA woman who is known for getting our hair in great condition. While I dont buy her pricey products, her hair tips used in conjunction with a good product (i.e., Cantu Shea Soft or Motions products), you will see amazing results!

You should just do a hot oil treatment once or twice a month depending on how dry your hair is, if your hair isn't dry there's really no reason for you too oil it so often. I use tea tree oil myself but when I was younger I did hot oil treatments.
