Do you think his hair will straighten out?

My daughter's puppy is about 10-12 weeks old now. He's a shih-tzu/chihuahua mix and he has really fluffy- curly like hair. We brush him twice daily, just like we do our cocker, but I'm wondering if his hair will get straighter when he gets older or if it will always be curly. Does anyone have any experience with this? If I'm right, both shih-tzus and longhair chihuahuas have straight hair- so there's no real reason his should be curly when he's an adult, is there?

Oh! That's normal for a dog like that!

My aunt had a dog like that but white it's really cute and curly!

Better have a curly dog than nothing of that!

His heair will probably stay the same as it is now. All the Shih-tzu X's I have seen (pup %26amp; adult) have that sort of coat.

That's a cute dog and its ok if it's curly, it is his natural hair and doesn't needs to be straight, besides curly are cuter(imagine poodles with straight hair)

I'd say his hair will remain the same for the rest of his life. That type of hair is normal for the breed. your puppy is adorable

I have a shih tzu and pups are always curly when they are young. Long hair chihuahua's have more of straight hair. So I would say as he gets older it should be straighter then it is now. I would even talk to a groomer, one at a petco or pet smart. They can be a bit easier to bring your dog there and talk to them. Around 6 months old you could get a trim and that could help get rid of the pup curl. By then what ever he has will stay. I understand it can be hard to care for. I think during the winter it seems to frizz more. Do you use a mist of spray on conditioner for pets? That can help if is get out of hand.
